Jean Freeman (Levy)(Reed) was born in the early 1900s in New York City where she attended private school. Jean had a most interesting life! Her family owned the first textile mill in the state of New York. Jean was the first woman in NYC to own and drive a convertible car. She opened a deli in downtown NYC with her partner who happened to be Betty Ford, wife of future President Gerald Ford. Jean mingled with the political elite, movie stars and famous people in the art world. Her first husband, Leon Levy was the inventor of the folding aluminum lawn chair. They lived on Fifth Avenue in NYC. Their marriage didn't last long; however, she had a son named William and when they divorced she took back her own name, giving it to her son as well. Jean's next adventure was writing a food and restaurant article for the magazine "House & Garden", which took her travelling the world. Jean was a very decadent, free spirited adventurous woman which was unique and uncommon during that era. In later years she married Harold Reed who was head of the Hudson Motor Company. They lived on a magnificent farm "Stoney Hill" in Pennsylvania. After Harold died, Jean moved to Bucks County and her neighbors happened to be Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel and Candice Bergen, who she befriended. When elderly, she moved to Victoria, British Columbia to be with family. She died in 1985.
